Dutch Oven On The Cook Top Biscuits

Kristine and I wanted biscuits, no oven, so I made them on the cooktop.

I set the burner on low, put a rack in the pan, set a little pot of water on the rack, and put the lid on the dutch oven and let it heat up.

While the dutch oven was heating I made some biscuits from scratch, not chicken feed, I used my Betty Crocker cookbook.

I took out the pot of water and rack, oiled the bottom of the dutch oven with vegetable oil, and placed the biscuits in the dutch oven. I put on the lid and set the timer for ten minutes.

After ten minutes, I turned the biscuits over... here are three turned. Then I put the lid back on and set the timer for another ten minutes.

I'm not too sure what the water did, but I didn't want to let the dutch oven heat without something in it and I didn't want to put in oil and have it cook away. This worked out great.

Surprise! Biscuits!

I was surprised they turned out so well. Always before I have used the wood stove to do this.

I painted some in Kristine's room, but took most of the day off.

Happy weekend!

It looks like they turned out beautifully. When I was growing up, we did not have an oven and used cast iron cookware for baking everything. It is amazing how well things can turn out. :)

Those biscuits look delish ! My Mom taught us how to cook biscuits like that over a campfire many moons ago when I was Girl Scout Leader. They're delicious cooked that way. I might have to make a campfire and cook some of those biscuits when it cools off a bit.
