Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 30 and update 31/32

"If you have the feeling
that something is wrong
don't be afraid to speak up."

January 30th, 2017
-------
I'll be away for a bit today.

Hope to post puppy photos later.

I grew up in the 1940's
and was taught and grew up believing
that America was a country for all.
All beliefs, races, etc., were to be respected
and America was a great country
because it was a
"melting pot.

Remember,
The majority of Americans
did not vote for Trump.
He became president because
of the electoral collage.

I believe the majority of Americans
are very afraid and appalled
at Trump's and the Republicans actions.

I too am afraid.
What will happen?
Is America a free country?
Will Americans speak up
for change
and see that our
constitution is followed?

Or is this the beginning
of the end
of America as I knew it?

Should I be afraid
because I have expressed my opinion here?
 Yes, I am afraid
but I will speak up.

I'm going to knit myself
a pinkpussyhat.
And wear it!

And speak up!

Update Day 31

Libby had a bit of a reaction
to the vaccination.
She is still a bit lethargic.
However, she ate
and still played some.
The vet said she should
be recovered by 11pm.

Banner seems to have not
had a reaction.

We are tired.
Going to bed early.
An hour early I hope.

Hope Libby is feeling
back to normal
in the morning.

nite, nite

--------

Update February 1st
Morning...
Banner is barking.
I took him out.
He is in his play pen.
Barking.
His breakfast is cooking.
If I go back where he can see me he
will stop barking.
He is quiet now.
I'll go back when he is not barking.
Libby will be down soon
and they will play.
Quietly.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 29

What?
The puppies were sleeping
but lifted their heads
to check out
the iPad camera.

Banner and Libby
Here they are sleeping
after walks
and playing on the deck.

They play hard and need their rest.

It is so nice
to have a safe place
for the puppies to be in the house.

They have learned to move
the fence around
so we don't leave them alone.

On the 30th they go to the vets
for the next in the
series of vaccinations.

Today we have been working
on having the puppies
stop barking in the house.

We want them to learn to stop
barking when we tell them to stop.
So far, so good.

Barking is ok.
I just want them to stop
when they are told to stop.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 28

Today was a busy day.
Kristine trimmed the puppies nails
this morning.

I held Banner on my lap.
(he lay on his back)
while Kristine cut his nails.
This is not his favorite position
but after he relaxed
Kristine cut his nails.

Kristine held Libby in her lap
and trimmed her nails!

We took walks with the puppies
on paths through the woods.

The puppies also
got to run around on the deck.

They are tired out now
and sleeping after their dinner.

Tired puppies are good puppies.

No photos of stuff we did today.
I'll post some that I
may not have posted before.

This photo is a little blurry
but I like it better
than the other one I posted.

Libby still likes to chew on metal.
Different?
I think we will need to get
some metal crates.
They could probably chew their way
out of the plastic ones
if left alone?

We are working with the puppies
on simple commands
like sit, down, over, and clear.

I have Banner sit at the slider
until I open the door
and I go outside on the deck first.
Then when he looks at me
I tell him "Clear"
and he can then come out
on the deck with me.

We do the same thing when
coming back inside.
I don't want to have to worry
about tripping over my dog
in a rush to get through a door.

He is getting much better
at the stay part.
It is hard for him to stay
when he wants to run to see his sister.

There are a lot of fun commands
to teach them,
I want to get Banner a doggie bed
that I can carry around
and put down in places.
Then Banner's job
will be to stay in the bed
when I tell him to.

My Dobes used to do that.
Sure made it easier to visit my
family with my dog
since she would stay on her bed
instead of running around.

I would put the bed in an out of the
way place where she could
see what was going on.

I'm looking forward to when
Banner will sit and stay.

Then we can play
Hide and Seek!

I'll leave him on a Stay.
I'll hide...then call him
and he will
have to come find me.
He'll get a food treat.
Fun!

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 27

Kristine took this photo
of the puppies.

I think they are both
chewing on a toy?

Banner and Libby
Or they are trying
to chew their way into the crate?
Sleeping?

They were very active this morning
and slept most of the
rest of the day.

Libby is a bigger eater
than Banner
and she usually finishes
all her food
and wants more.
She gets more.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 26

Banner, all tired out
after a walk in the snow.

It is also warm near the wood stove.

Libby and Banner had been out
on the icy
snow covered deck
having a wonderful time.

They discovered that if they stopped
running they would slide!

One of them did it by accident
and then they did it on purpose.

Wish we could have taken photos.

Libby and Banner
work on getting a bone out of
a toy that has kibble in it.

We have to be their mother
and tell them when
to calm down
if their play gets too rough.

They usually
call a halt themselves
when one of them
squeaks ouch!
They back off, pause, then
resume their play.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 26

Busy day...
I need to go play with Banner now
so this is a short post...
but I did get some
photos today...

I was surprised that there
was a little new snow
this morning.

And I was surprised the snow
lasted all day.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 24/25

Picture two corgi puppies
racing around.
See all the puppy prints!

The puppies are large enough that
they can't fit through the railings.
Yay!
The puppies would run around.
Then it would snow
and cover up the prints.
Then they would run around again.

Kristine tried to get some
good photos of
the puppies in the snow
but that didn't happen.

They did also get their
nails trimmed yesterday.

We have spent most of the
snow days
drying off puppies.

They do love the snow!

Libby
Kristine did manage to get
a photo of Libby in the snow.

It may snow again tomorrow?
I hope so.

Chicken update:
The two elderly hens
are still doing well.
They don't like the snow so much.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 23

Libby getting toweled dry
after a trip out to potty.
Rain and slushy almost snow
today and the only
thing new
was we introduced
the puppies
to a battery operated
nail trimmer.
We did one nail.

It must have sounded different
than the one they
were used to
because they didn't even
want the liver treats.

Oh well...

Perhaps a slower
introduction with lots of treats?
Or a regular nail trimmer
might be the thing to do.

Everything seems to take
longer because of
the weather.

Still I am glad of the rain!

Nite, nite Banner.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 22

Wow!
It's been three weeks
of puppy.

Today I was home alone
with Libby and Banner
for the morning.

Lunch will be served soon.

They had play time together
before lunch

Banner finished lunch
and is looking
at me asking to go outside,

Libby is still eating lunch.
She is going to be a big girl.
These poor puppies
have been
trapped inside most days
because of the weather.

I'm very glad to have the
rain and snow
but our plans for the puppies
have not happened.

Kristine thinks that Libby
has grown enough
that she won't fit through
the deck railings.
Hope so.

But so far they are still
on a leash when
we take them out to potty.

Seems we spend lots of the day
toweling dry
wet, wiggling, squirmy puppies.
Maybe they think
it's a game?

In the Summer,
a dry forest full of dry crunchy
leaves is going to be
a new experience
for them.

Not the wet soggy leaves
they see now.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 21

Banner is next to me
chewing on a toy bone
while I type this post.

I put kibbles in the pink toy
for him to find.

He was chewing little pieces
out of the bone toy
so I had to take it away.

I'll have to get him a stronger
bone toy.

Libby is next to Kristine
and was trying to
take an after dinner nap
until I woke her up
when I crept up quietly
to get this photo.

I would like to thank you
for the comments.
I'm sorry that I have not
been able to find time
to reply to them.

Rainy day again today.
More rain and maybe snow
forecast until at least Tuesday.
Poor puppies are getting
used to having to have their
potty time in the rain.

Time to get ready for another
trip outside with Banner
so he can potty
before bed.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 20

The first storm has arrived.
The monster in the coat
holding the wiggling puppy is me.

Banner getting ready to go out in the rain.
Libby is relaxed
waiting patiently for Banner
to go out to potty.

Libby
Then Banner can play with her
until dinner is served.

I need to go warm up their dinner.

If I have time I will
add to this post.

But at least I have
this much finished.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 18/19

oops!

Yesterday I ran out of time
(so no blog post)
and Kristine said
I should just give up on
writing about the puppies.

Banner
I have to watch him with the red soft chew toy
because he pulls off threads
and I don't want him to eat them.

Because it is getting boring!
Yes, I suppose it is
but I do want some kind of
record about what
went on
even if it is boring.

Yesterday, Kristine had to run
errands and I was
left alone with the puppies.

Libby
She is trying out the crate door
as a potential chew toy.
That's a no no.

I really don't know how
someone could raise two puppies
all by their self.
Just taking them in and out of
the house one at a time
to potty is a lot to do
and keep track of
who did what.

Well, I survived
but no blog post yesterday.
And today is not a whole
lot better time wise.

Time for me to go warm
up the puppies dinner.

Hope Kristine can get
some photos.

Yep, she did.
As you can tell.

My iPad is a 2nd generation
and won't update to ios 10.
The storage is full.
I think I will be forced to
get a new iPad.
Not so bad.
😊

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 17

Banner and Libby
have play time together
before meals.

Banner asleep after dinner.
They were together
for between
an hour and an hour and a half
each time.

Libby loves her keys.
The rest of the time
they were with their person,
near their person and
playing with their toys,
or asleep.

Banner and I took a
short walk in the woods.
It is still a bit too wet out there
to enjoy with the puppy.
Muddy and slippery.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 16

Today the puppies were tired
and caught up on sleep.
Puppies their age
can sleep 18 to 20 hours a day.
At least that is what I have read.

Libby
They were so sleepy
they didn't finish up their food
until dinner time.

Libby ate all her dinner
but Banner left some of his.

They are asleep again.

Hopefully, tomorrow the forest
will dry out a bit.
And we can take the puppies
out for walks.

And photos!

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 15

This morning the rain
had turned to ice.
The puppies
didn't seem to mind
the icy deck.
Later it warmed up
a bit and the puppies
could run around.

Banner
Banner was running around on the deck
when he suddenly decided
to take a rest.

So cute!

He moved his front foot
back when Kristine
took the photo.
But he didn't get up.

You can see he has a bit
of the leash in his mouth.
Sometimes he leads me
and sometimes I lead.
Eventually, I will be the leader.
But tug of war is fun.
And he needs to wim too.

They are still on leash
to make sure they
don't escape
through the railings.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgi Puppies - Day 14

Today Banner figured out how
to make his soft
chew toy squeak
Surprise!

Banner and  chew toy.
Libby does love her dinner.
She took her food dish
into her crate.
Placed it on edge
and proceeded to lick
it clean
while stretched out in
comfort on pillows.

I made her more food.

Honest, Libby has her head in the dish,

The puppies are walking
well on leash.
Banner still likes to carry
a bit of the leash sometimes.

I took Banner for a short walk
under the trees.
Don't think I will do that
again until it dries out a bit.
The leaves are slippery wet.
Not real safe out there.

Very glad we have the fenced deck.
The puppies are growing
so fast that it won't
be long before they will not
be able to fit between
the railings.
They will be able to run around
on the deck without a leash.
That will be a sight
and a lot of fun for them.

Raising Two Welsh Cardigan Corgis - Day 13

Today the puppies caught up
on their sleep
and slept
most of the morning.

They have playtime together
before breakfast,

Sometimes also before
lunch and dinner.

This depends on how
sleepy they are.

The puppies spend more time
with their person
than they do with each other.

Today Libby ate all her food.
So, I fixed her a larger portion.
Banner still had a bit of food
left that Libby finished.

Banner and Libby
sleeping together this week.
Libby was sleeping this evening
while Banner and I sat
together and watched
a bit of Hatari.

Banner really liked the baby elephants
and watched them
intently with ears pricked straight up.
He liked the monkeys too.

My iPad has maxed out
its storage
and I can't take photos.
Arrrgh!

I'll have to move or delete
some photos or videos.

Raising Two Cardigan Corgi Puppies - Day 11

News:
Tomorrow the puppies
go to the veterinarian
to get one of their puppy shots.
The visit the other day
was a wellness check.

Weather:
The storm is still here
and was really scary last night.
High wind and the sound of
trees and branches
cracking and falling.
None of us want to
go outside.
Banner and I use a large
umbrella.
I hold it for him.
I don't think he likes the rain.
Libby doesn't seem to mind
getting wet.
She doesn't like the umbrella.

Food:
Tonight the puppies finished all the food in their pans.
I made more and offered it
until they stopped eating.
Tomorrow I will start with larger measurements
of kibble and ground meat
to make sure they have sufficient to eat
without me mixing up extra.

The puppies are growing so fast!

Libby after dinner.

Banner before dinner.
Today Kristine and I played
a come and sit
game with the puppies.
She would call them
and when they came running
she would tell them sit and give
them a treat when they sat.
Then I would call them
and when they came running
to me I would tell them
sit and give them a treat.

And I played
which hand has the treat.

Smart puppies!

Raising Two Puppies - Day 10

Sorry, ran out of time....
to type much...

Banner

Libby

Libby was up at 2:30am and out to potty.
Then she slept until 7:30.

Banner was up at 5:30am.
Then slept until 7:30.

They just ate a late breakfast.
I'm going to be setting
the alarm for 7:00am
from now on.
So, I can be sure of feeding them
at 8:00am.

Banner and Libby
had a fun
play time
today.

Off to bed
