Aprons From The 1950's

Aprons! I found these two cute little aprons that I think are from the 1950's rolled up in a box and I'm going to wash them up and keep them with my chicken aprons.

And use them. That's the deal I have with myself... I can keep stuff if I use it.

The aprons were the lucky ones. Lots of things were destroyed to a greater or lesser extent by the actions of mice. Ick. Yuk. Although, that did make it easy to tell what to toss.

I do confess it is not that easy to decide to get rid of things. I can always think of uses for stuff and I dither over what to keep. Sometimes I have to leave things sit for a day and then I can come back and put them in the Goodwill box.

Somehow, who we are seems to get all mixed up with the stuff we keep and getting rid of stuff makes it feel like getting rid of little bits of your life or self. Well, it can feel that way to me.

I have to keep my mantra in mind:
"keep the memories and get rid of the clutter."

The storage building is mostly cleared out now and my porch doesn't have very much room for the chickens or anything else because it is covered with boxes that need going through. Clouds are supposed to be here by Sunday so I need to clear this stuff before it rains. Tomorrow I have to get busy filling up the pickup and filling boxes for Goodwill!

I still have large things to move outside to take to Goodwill like old doors and heavy boxes of old tile. Stuff like that that has been around for eight years or more and needs to go.

Morgan and the chickens keep trying to follow me around as I carried boxes, but they finally gave up and went to hang out in cooler spots. The chickens went under the house and Morgan went to lay in the shade where she could watch me. And I suppose wonder what I was doing.

There is still a bad smell coming from the feed shed. Kristine thinks maybe the chicken we thought the fox got really went in the shed and died. Maybe? Or a skunk is living there? Morgan isn't very interested in investigating the shed, so I really don't know and I really don't want to find a dead chicken or?

Kristine and I smell forest fire smoke, but we can't find out where it is coming from. Maybe it is blowing this way from the Vernon fire near Yosmite Valley? Hope there is nothing closer.

Kristine brought home dinner!

Good luck with your sorting! It seems like I am forever making a Good Will box then hauling it off only to find more stuff to get rid of...where is it all coming from is what I want to know, lol!

Hi Callie ~ Those aporns are very pretty and so useful. Makes you wonder why people stop wearing aporns , I guess it's because they stop cooking.
I love your mantra " Keep memories , not clutter " , I need to keep that in mind as I start decluttering :)

Whenever we throw something out or get rid of it, we inevitably want it a month or so down the road. I think that's why we have faucet parts and bits of electrical wire and numerous odds and ends around the house.

Congrats to you on making a dent. :)

I hope it's just smoke from far away. When the weather is right it can travel miles.

My husband and I escaped our Indiana home for ONE FULL YEAR!! I could not believe how brave I was to attempt something so out of character! As the year away came to an end, I realized that I had lived an entire year with not more than what we could pack in our SUV. The minute we came home (Okay...maybe a few days later) I attacked the house like a burglar on crack! Whatever I hadn't used or needed in the prior year made some very happy people who shop at GOODWILL. Now, it seems that even my brain has less clutter in it, knowing that my closets have room, the garage has space and my life has breathing room!

I love the old aprons, so I'm glad you can keep them. I also love the mantra. It really is best to keep it simple I think. I admit I do struggle with that sometimes.
