Fall Flag

Kristine is back from house sitting and she brought me an early Christmas present.  A Jeeves and Wooster DVD!

We have been watching the shows and I haven't made my bed, washed my hair, or posted on my blog. Missed the 20th altogether.

So, a quick post.

I got the Fall flag up, made some cranberry sauce, did laundry and not much else.

Kristine's good friend gave her a slotted ruler called a Shape Cut. Thank you very much! Kristine also brought me some books!

I think this template is so neat. I can cut strips, squares or triangles with it. I'm so looking forward to starting work on my quilts and using this template.

The chickens are fine. They are still not very excited about the organic chicken feed.

I originally wanted the organic feed because I thought it was more nutritious, but yesterday I found an article that said the regular chicken feed contains arsenic.

I suppose everyone else knows about this but me. I also found some recipes for mixing up your own chicken feed. This sounds like a good thing to do and I might consider it if we lived close to a place that sold the ingredients. I'm going to have to try out making a moist mash out of the organic pellets and see how that goes. Tomorrow?

Hi Callie!! I usually stop by your blog, and don't leave a comment because I don't have anything to add. But today I will just let you know I'm here and say that I didn't have any idea about "organic chicken feed." I somehow was dumb enough to think that what they ate was so simple, how could it have additives etc., but I guess it makes sense that it would. I guess I'm going to have to learn a lot more before I get my first chicken! :-)))
I love the fall too, and being under a warm quilt is the best--I love your fabric and can't wait to see how it all comes together! Enjoy your day!!

I think the same about my horse feed, would like to have just plain old recleaned oats and other ingredients but here it is too hard to get all the ingredients and I really don't have the time to go hunting for it.

I didn't know that about chicken feed so thanks for sharing it.
So typical that they would 'adjust' exposure estimates rather than have the arsenic removed.

That's just like the stupid argument 'there is no significant difference in milk from cows treated with rbST growth hormone and untreated cows'. Yet kids get puberty earlier every year. Crohn's disease is on the rise, too, but since Crohn's is treatable, they don't care about infected cows.

Never thought, when I was growing up, that I would have to worry about my own government killing me.

Can't wait until we are raising our own chickens. Then I just have to hope we get them from a safe source.

Callie, if your chickens don't like that feed maybe you could mix it with something like Dani's tonic recipe, making it soupy. She wrote that her chickens can't wait for her to set it down and lap this up. Interesting.

I never knew chickens were fussy. If that's all you gave them, wouldn't they eventually HAVE to eat the organic? Just saying.
