Do You See What I See?

I wish I knew what they thought was so interesting. Just before I took this picture there were about seven hens along this fence looking in at something in the pen. Wonder what? I looked, but all I could see was a few hens scratching around in the pen. I guess it is the grass is greener proverb in action again. Or? Morgan and the Light Brahma are easily entertained by hens scratching?

I took my chicken flag down today and put up the Fall flag. That apple pie really gets me in the mood for baking. I want my oven checked and working. This month. That's the plan. I need to find the bag of stuff to make Christmas wreaths that I tucked away safe. If I start looking now, I hope to find the bag by the end of the month. I still need to look in the Christmas box.

Kristine hurried back in the house this morning to get my camera so she could take this shot of an Angular-Winged Katydid. She looked it up in the Lone Pine Bugs of Norther California Book. Their habitat is supposed to be open area, not dirty cars, but this one is evidently a little confused.

If the hens found the katydid, I'm sure they would have had lunch. I hardly ever see any bugs, ants, crawly things, around here. And when I do see an insect it is one with wings. That tells me something. The girls are diligent in finding edibles. The only thing I see the hens pass on are millepedes, but that is because the millepedes produce cyanide. I'd pass too.

Wow! Seven eggs and I checked every nest

last night with a flash light and only found one.

I was worried the hens were going to stop laying.
