Day Off

Today I had no energy and felt exhausted. (Kristine did too) So I took the day off. Kristine says we are just now feeling the after effects of the fox attack. I suppose so.

I didn't see it, but Kristine said when the fox attacked the chickens came running to the house and up on the porch. Pretty smart chickens!

The two that the fox almost caught ran away and hid for awhile.

The chickens are still locked up, the wounded Buff Orpington is healing, and the sprouts must be close to finished? I must say that they don't look very appetizing.

It may rain so even the chicken feed is inside. Poor chickens. They really are not happy having to stay in their pen, but the fox is still around. Morgan ran him out of the yard again today.

It is hard to tell but the oaks are getting ready to celebrate Spring with some new green leaves.

We may have some winter weather before Spring comes to stay.

I have been watching Lord Peter Wimsey (I like Edward Petherbridge as LPW) shows on YouTube. I would like to get them on DVD.

Oh yes, chickens are smart when it comes to survival instincts! If a hawk flies over here one will give an alert and they will all take off running for the cover of bushes and trees!
I wish your fox would go away!

Hi Callie ~ Hope you're feeling better soon , sometimes the stress of the situation doesn't set in until a few days later.
Hate to hear that the sneaky fox is still lurking.

That chicken coop and the method of using is very interesting , enjoyed reading about it.

sorry, just catching up. Oh man, the fox. Glad the hen is doing better. Like the siffter. Sounds like you handled her wounds just fine. Mine will not be able to free range at all, since we are not on the property with them.

Poor little chickens. I feel for the fox too. He's probably hungry. But I'm not saying he's allowed to eat somebody's personal chickens. We have the problem here with coyotes. People complain about them coming into the neighborhoods but...those houses were built in their homelands. I don't know what the best answer is on that. I can see both sides.

What are you going to do about that fox? Can you shoot it? Trap it?

I hope you feel better soon!

Nancy K: The fox and other wildlife up here in the forest stays as far as I'm concerned. We are living in their space. So, it is my job to keep my animals safe from them. I expect to lose some chickens. Don't like it, but that's the reality.

Some times you just need a day off. Mom's brother used to call it mind-reorientation day.. Morgan you keep up the good work...
