Chicken Coop and Pen Deep Litter Method

First thing I did when I went out this morning was to hang up the Christmas Santa flag.

Then I cut some more pine branches.

Then I raked up some of the leaves
by the chicken coop
and put down a fresh layer
in the pen.

The leaves will give the chickens
something to dig and spread around
when they get up in the morning.

The chickens are out there
under the trees
scratching up
good things to eat.

It's been a while since I've seen these videos about deep litter.
I've been following this method and it works
as long as I keep adding new litter.
I clear out the pen when it needs it...

I would like to try some silage, but haven't been able to get any.

I've been experimenting using leaves for deep litter and agree, it works! Love your December quotes too.

I use the deep liter method during the winter - it helps with insulation too! :)

Now that our garden's over, our chicks are able to roam and what fun they're having.

I just learned of the deep litter method a few days ago and I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it myself. It makes so much sense for winter months!
