Two Chickens Make A Cozy Nest

This Buff Orpington and Australorp have snuggled up for a comfortable nights rest.

They were not at all happy to have me snap the flash in their eyes.

I was out in the coop counting chickens when I found them together. I knew there was a hen in the nest, but didn't realize there were two... I kept coming up one short.

So I went and got a flashlight to check out the back of the coop and then found the missing chicken here. Peep A Boo!

A few weeks ago I experimented again with my dutch oven and seasoned and wrapped some chops, set them on a rack and let them slow cook in the dutch oven with the lid on.

Note: there is a metal rack under the foil packages.

They came out fine. I'll have to try that again.

3 eggs today from 14 chickens... two broody.
Poor girls are too warm or too old or?

I just love cooking in my cast iron but I have to say that I like cooking over an open fire even better in it. I sometimes wish I lived on a ranch so I could cook more often like that or went camping more often!!

Love the chicken cuddly moment! And the Dutch Oven idea is awesome. We have one too and I sure wish I knew how to better use it, at people use to do...

Ooh, the chickens were caught red handed:) Your chops sound quite delicious, best way to cook is nice and slow.

My egg production is down a bit also. I thought they were hiding them somewhere, but I think it is just the heat and molt will be here soon.

I think the heat slows everyone down, but who can say?
Maybe you should share your dutch oven recipes. I need to get a dutch oven.
Love the chicken lid holder! :)

I recently found two hens in a nestbox too. Is there something in the air?!!
