December 7, 1941

San Francisco, 1941

In December, 1941, I was 11 months old.

In the '40's I remember my Father wearing hats, suits,
smoking a pipe and people rolling cigarettes.
I saw my first television in a store window display.
Ladies wore hats, gloves, nylons with
a seam down the back
and two toned open toed shoes.

In the fifties I rode those cable cars
and traveled around San Francisco, Golden Gate Park,
and Playland At The Beach.
Learned to swim in the Flyshacker Pool.
and the City looked much the same as in the video.
There were even some of the old cars around.

Growing up I was afraid of war.
Afraid of being bombed.
In the 40's whenever I heard a plane fly over I would worry.
I guess I saw too many newsreels at the movies.
The cold and hot wars have always
been simmering somewhere in the world.

I wish for
Peace in the world.

I loved your memories...some are very close to mine although I grew up in the country.
