Lovely New Deck! - Tour

I'm going to start this tour of the new deck at the back of the house.

Beautiful railings and deck.

Love how the grey color of the deck boards sets off the black railings.

And love Kristine's little deck!

Then at the far corner...

there is this wonderful new stair and railing!

Standing with my back to those stairs I see down this side of the house

toward the front of the house.

The front deck has two double gates.

Morgan is not used to having the freedom of the deck.

Morgan and the chickens

have been locked up until all the work on the property is completed.

Very nice latches on the double gates!

The latches are very easy to flip up and down to operate.

Here is the other end of the front deck.

And here is the other side of the front of the house that has a single gate.

Past the single gate I continued walking around to the rest of the front deck...

and at the corner I found this single gate!

I'll be using this gate a lot as it leads to the chicken coop.

Then I turned the corner and...

 looked down this side of the house...

and walked down to this gate and stairs.

I have posted this photo before

but here is the picture of what the latches on the single gates look like.

They are easy to operate and look very nice too.

I'm very pleased with the new deck!

And very, very happy it was completed before Winter.

Day 71 - New Deck Finished - Stumps

Well, I think the deck is finished.

I didn't ask, but the deck looks completed

and the new latches are installed.

I'll get some photos of the deck tomorrow.

This morning was bright and sunny.

Not warm (60's) but crisp and clear.

At least it was up there.

Down here things are a bit darker.

This morning I took lots of photos of stumps.

I think they look pretty covered in moss.

I'm only posting a few.

Here is the stump the fox used to hop over the fence

and bite a chicken.

Morgan chased the fox back over the fence.

I added boards and extra wire to slow the fox down.

This stump fell over.

Here is a hollow stump.

Someone else's stump.

There is extra fencing here too.

This stump is a mother.

There is a little cypress tree growing out of it.

This is a new stump.

I'm glad Tom cut the tree down.

It had fallen and was hung up in the trees.

I was afraid to walk under it.

There are lots and lots of stumps

and I find them all interesting.

There is always something to see on our walks.

I'm sure the deck would have been finished long ago

but there was all the dry rot to fix, bad weather,

gutters, drainspouts, and water drains to build

and other jobs that slowed the project down.

Day 70 - Trip To Town

Take a trip to town with me...

down the mountain...

down...

down...

down...

down...

down...

over the bridge...

and into town.

Where we had lunch

and I did some shopping.

Then back up the mountain...

and up... 

up...

up...

up...

up...

up...

and down the road...

and around...

and around... 

until 

we're home.

Morgan was glad to see us!

And I was glad to get home.

Seemed to take longer to get home than it did to get to town.

I took more photos on the way home.

Day 69 - New Deck - Gate Latches

This is the type of latch on the single swing porch gates.

Looks nice!

And here is a temporary latch of sorts on one of the double gates.

A different type of gate latch is being looked for to fit them.

I like this latch at the bottom to hold one side closed.

I checked on the herbs and found them growing like weeds.

They are very happy with the rain and snow.

I checked on the hens and found two chickens

had dug themselves little holes and settled in for a rest.

I guess they are resting.

Back by the door there is a Light Brahma

and by the left window there is a Wyandotte.

The rest of the chickens are in the coop.

The deck is made of something called Trex.

So, they routed the edge of a piece to fit the top of the post.

Pretty neat!

Not much happening today

so not much to talk about.

No eggs because the hens are molting.

Day 68 - New Deck - Shadows

I love to walk in the woods

when the early morning sunlight casts sharp shadows

through the trees.

Some mornings it's misty...

but this morning there is blue sky...

and only a bit of mist high in the trees.

I walk this path along the fence line every morning with Morgan.

Sometimes I think I should take a walk beside the road

but when I have tried

there are too many dogs that challenge us along the way.

Safer inside my fence.

I like the shadows these leaves and twigs make.

Morgan is listening to the sound of dogs barking far away.

No shadows in the chicken pen.

This little Wyandotte is out in the pen all by herself.

She probably came out for a drink.

When it gets really cold I'll put drinking water for the hens

inside the coop with the feed.

No deck work today.

Hope the workers come back tomorrow.
