Rain Check Please

Rain... first thing I did this morning was (here's a switch, I got up early when Kristine did) go out and put the chicken feed inside the coop out of the rain.

I tossed lots of scratch out in the pen to give the chickens something to keep them busy. The hens have to stay locked up today (and are not happy about it) so I can keep Morgan inside the house instead of leave her outside watching the chickens and getting all wet and smelly. Not good.

As I hurried back to the porch to move boxes, lumber, and stuff inside, I tried to get a photo of the dark sky threatening rain and the chicken flag flapping in the wind, but as soon as I went to take the picture the wind stopped. Wind moving the flag is a big deal. I can see the wind blowing the tops of the trees around, but the wind seldom makes it down to flag level unless there is a storm on the way.

I'm calling in a rain check due to the weather changing from over 100 two days ago to drizzle today and (real rain forecast tomorrow) messing up my plans for sorting and getting rid of stuff. By this, I mean I want more summer days so I can finish up painting and my outside work.

I scurried around hauling boxes and things off the porch back inside the old spa house and the "in between" area.

Sigh... my nice painted room (the "in between") is all messed up again. Well, if I can believe the forecast we are supposed to be back in 80+ degree weather starting Monday.

Gee... then I get to haul all the stuff back outside. Whoopee...
Argh! I covered some of this stuff up with plastic in case the skylight leaks. I guess I could look on this rain as a test for getting ready for winter rain and snow. Leaks? I hope not.

I was exhausted after rushing around and picking up heavy things and carrying them. I tried resting on the couch and reading, but it was cold and we haven't fired up the wood stove yet, so I put on my winter knitted cap and went back to bed... somewhere in there I made tea and read. Hard to believe Summer is almost over... (Autumn is September, October and November.)

I hope September gives us some nice warm dog days.
I'm going back to bed.
Brrr...

Photos Of Chicken Aprons And Getting Rid Of Stuff

I'm really enjoying my open shelving with the apricot interior. It makes the kitchen bright and happy. I may or may not add back some of the cupboard doors. I have some of them knocked apart trying out fitting plexiglass in the middle instead of a solid wood door. I'll see how it goes... how many mistakes I make.

Dog Hair In My Coffee asked about the chicken aprons... here is a photo of my two chicken aprons. I love them! They make me smile and feel happy just looking at them. Don't know if it is the chicken print, the color or the fabric... but I think it is the chickens.

We found the cow and Wilber the pig in some boxes that got packed many years ago. These little guys are survivors.

They survived the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake which was an 8 something up in the mountain where we lived. They do have some ear tip damage but it's not too bad. We will be enjoying seeing them in the kitchen. I wish we had a farm with real cows and pigs, but chickens are as close as we can get.

It was very hot today at least 100 or above and what with sorting through boxes and moving stuff it was a very bad day for working outside. So, yes, I'm very tired and am in great need of a shower, but I'm going to make this short post first.

I didn't even make dinner even though I took the chicken out to thaw this morning. I just never got back to spend time in the kitchen.

I had to make Morgan lay down on the bricks in the shade so she could cool off a bit. She doesn't like to stop moving, but when it is so hot we worry about her having heat stroke. She could watch me so she was happy. The chickens were all under the house where it is cool. I thought about joining them, but I'm too afraid of black widow spiders and snakes.

The last photo is of the pickup with part of a load for Goodwill. There will be many trips. I'll be so glad to see all the stuff gone.

I wonder if I should have researched how to make decisions on what to get rid of? Are there rules? I'm keeping valuable stuff, stuff I can't replace and things I love. I suppose I will be sorry down the line that I got rid of some things.

Clearing Out Stuff, Carting Away Stuff, And Finding Stuff

Yep... I'm in the midst of carrying boxes of stuff out to be sorted through and then the stuff either gets taken to the dump or to Goodwill where I hope it has another life being of use.

Having stuff packed away for years doesn't help out anyone. People that could use the stuff can't get at it and I can't find it when I want to use it. How many time we have bought things that I knew we had pack away.

I wished we hadn't moved stuff up here when we moved houses, but it is hard to get rid of things after over thirty years. But I'm in the getting rid of things mood, so things are going to go.

This getting rid of stuff does lead to frayed nerves when people don't want to get rid of things. I like to go with, "keep the memories and get rid of the stuff," unless the stuff is valuable, lovely or important. Hard to do sometimes.

The photo is of part of a stand alone hammock. I love finding things I had forgot about or didn't know where they were. Now that I found it I'm going to set it up and use it for a snooze tomorrow. I'm tired. Those boxes are heavy. Early to bed tonight.

I thought these chicks were just too cute!

Hope it doesn't rain this year until I get rid of all the boxes.
