Blog House Cleaning

My blog has become cluttered... I just kept adding stuff, but I need to be ruthless and go through my sidebars and dump stuff. Sniff... I have taken some things away, and I'm considering putting some of the things on a another page. I haven't found an easy way to move widgets off the blog. I guess I will just have to re-type them.

 My table is cluttered too... the Card Trick pieces on the ironing board are the wrong size. I cut the blue pieces of paper to use as a guide when I went through them all and checked.

Arrgh... I really don't like cutting out a bunch of little pieces that are almost the same size. I think I will stick to one cutting block at a time for a while.

I was going to sew this quilt on the machine, but I think it will be easier to fit all the pieces together by hand. If I can manage to cut the pieces the right size.

Morgan is so cute overseeing the chickens dinnertime. She will step in and goose a chicken that is being bossy and pushy. Morgan likes peace at supper time.

No dinner tonight... it is hot and no one wants to eat. There are plenty of leftovers if anyone gets hungry.

Well, back to the Card Tricks. Maybe I can get a block sewn together tonight?

Painting And Watermelon For The Chickens

Today I painted the entry area under the stairs. I need to cut another piece of base board. I built a place for a twin bed behind this short wall. It needs a new mattress or foam cut like I have in the motor home.

Next I decided to paint the counter I built for the computer and printer.
Those are two bookcases I hooked together and put up on the counter. The bookcases reach up to the ceiling and since they fit so well (I didn't measure) I went ahead and put them up there. I took out the bottom shelves so the computer stuff fits.

I moved all the stuff that was cluttering up the area. Going through all  the accumulated paper and bits and pieces is going to be a job. I didn't want to  disconnect everything so I will have to move the  keyboard and other stuff to painted areas and finish painting tomorrow.

I stopped for a watermelon break which meant the chickens got the leavings for a treat. This winter I'm going to paint the little chairs some bright colors. The grandkids enjoyed being able to use the little table when they were visiting and I like the look of having it setting by the window.


Maybe I'll move my stuffed bear family out here eventually to sit around the table.

Morgan Attacked By Chicken - Poor Dog

This afternoon I took the camera and went out to collect eggs and give the chickens a treat.  Morgan as usual watched the hens eating the scratch I had tossed out in a shady place.

The Wyandotte that Morgan is looking at took offense and flew at Morgan while making lots of chicken noise and trying to peck her. I guess it was something like, "Back off dog... you can't have my corn!" It happened so fast I couldn't get a photo.

Morgan left the chickens and headed for the trees. Poor Morgan... Kristine has seen that mean ol' Wyandotte chase her before.

I followed Morgan to see what she would do and found her at one of her favorite pastimes. I like to think of it as Morgan keeping the squirrels in the trees or squirrel herding. When she finds them she will follow the squirrels from tree to tree.

After a hard day watching squirrels and chickens Morgan likes some quiet time on this bed next to me and the computer. Well, what she really likes is my foot. She parks herself under my foot so I will give her a foot rub. Then she lays down and makes herself comfy on her bed. Tonight she even made herself a pillow. Morgan is talented. 

Tom and Kristine left today for a visit to her grandmother. I took the day off and watched Agatha Christie shows on YouTube. Later I did take the time to put on the magnetic catches.

I started with this door because we hardly ever open it because it is mostly full of the gas piping for the cook top. I've been thinking it might make a good spot for a removable spice rack that would fit in front of the pipe. Maybe this winter I could do that.

It was a good thing I started with this cupboard because I made a lot of mistakes: chipped the paint when I drilled too close to the edge, picked a spot the drill couldn't fit at a right angle, and picked the top board that turned out to be too narrow. I needed to use the board on the side which thankfully was thicker. After I made all the oops here I put the other catches on without any problems. But now I find that the doors need knobs. The catches really work and make it difficult to open the door. Kristine said she would look for some tomorrow when she was out and about.

Kristine and I have been watching One Piece online. It is an anime that has been running in Japan for over ten years. Once I got past the poor translation and got used to the animation style I find that I am liking this show very much.

Everybody's Happy - Especially, Morgan, Our Sweet Dog

Morgan and the chickens spent the day outside. The hens were happy to get out of the pen and Morgan was glad she didn't have to wear the t-shirt. I was happy I didn't have to worry about Morgan licking her bum.

Morgan doesn't have anymore problems and after spending yesterday sleeping all day she was active and playful. She wanted to nuzzle the chickens but they didn't want to play. They just wanted their scratch.

The chickens and Morgan followed me along a path I raked yesterday. I relented and came back to the shed and got some scratch for the hens. Poor Morgan didn't get a treat because I forgot... no kibble in my pockets.

I did some painting on the inside of the cabinets and some touch up where needed. I didn't put a door on the corner cabinet because I am always opening and shutting it to get at the veggies in the basket or the iron skillets.

I decided that getting some magnetic cabinet door catches would make my life happier. I have one cabinet door that always stays closed tightly when I shut it, but the other doors hang open to greater or lesser degrees. I have found that if I pull up a bit on the bottom corner of the door opposite the hinge then the door will stay closed. But the next time I open it the door is hanging open an inch or so.

Next I will move up and work on the upper cabinets. They have a coat of primer on them, but I need to add some trim work before I start painting. No cabinet doors up there... open shelving. My reward for finishing the kitchen cabinets will be to paint some walls. Painting walls are fun!


I thought I would add a photo of my solution to shutting out the sun in the sewing/computer room. I don't like curtains and since there are no houses around I don't need them for privacy. But, sometimes I need to block the sun from heating up the room and shining on the computer.

Kristine had some white foam boards around that she didn't want so one day I put one in the window. Works great! Blocks the sun and in the winter I have used the boards to block the cold when there is snow and cold temps outside.

The boards are easy to put in and take off and easy to store against a wall. Maybe I should have curtains, but I like the view without.
