Roofing Repair

There were many places where the roof had damage
and needed to be repaired.
The roofers should be finished with the roof this week.

The light colored boards are new wood.

New board behind the gutter.

New board here also.

New board that replaced the dry rot or carpenter ant damage.
Not sure which?

The hens have been playing with flakes of alfalfa and straw.
They are still not all that content.
They want out!

Before I let them out to roam
I want to find out how long they need to be kept away
from the spray the pests control people sprayed around the house.

And then there are the foxes to worry about
but hopefully they have moved away to new places
to look for dinner.

Roof On Tuesday Morning

The sun was so bright this morning
that I had to get behind a tree to take this photo, which looks a bit dark,
otherwise the reflection off the roof was blinding the camera.

Went down to Auburn today to pick up some
medication for Morgan.
Thought we would try another course
of antibiotics and see if she
gets a bit more perky.

And I bought a sun dress for myself.
I am a jean person usually always wearing jeans.
But now I have one cool dress to wear on these hot days.
One is all I need... I had another one and gave it away.
I think I'm keeping this one.

Weekend Roof Work

Yes, the roofers worked on the weekend!
Hard workers!

At the juncture of the level roof to the A-frame roof,

this piece of cracked plastic was used to make a large skylight
in the old roof.

That plastic will be replaced by two skylights.
The new skylight on the left opens
and when the skylight on the right is installed
it will be a non-opening skylight.

There was only one skylight that opened at the store
of the correct size and we didn't want to wait and place an order
so one skylight that opens is better than none.

I've been reading a lot lately.
The hot weather is giving me an excuse to spend time quietly reading
instead of trying to do much in the heat.

Kristine sent me the latest Elizabeth Moon book (Hardback!)
I have been buying Georgette Heyer books on my iPad.
I really do like real hardback books much better than ibooks.
But the ibooks are handy to have
and it is so convenient to buy a book and have it immediately
available to read whenever I want.

Happy Summer!

Roofing Progress And Strange Plant

These two photos of the roofs were taken this hot sweltering afternoon.

The small roof is almost finished
except for putting the skylight back.

The roofers are hoping the A-frame roof will be
in the shade when they get back from lunch.

The roofing job has been held up because of the
thunder and lightning storms and rain forecasts.
No fun being on a roof when there are lightening strikes.

The green leaves in the photo are of a tomato plant
and some strange plants that I can't identify...
the leaves with the smooth edge.

I thought they might be sunflowers
but my neighbor said no and I don't know?

I guess I will just let the plants grow and see what happens!
Would be nice if the tomato plants made some tomatoes
but not much sun reaches these beds.

Next year I'm switching to shade plants!

Clouds And Mountains

Photos taken on the way to buy myself an ice cream cone.

The first cone was so good that I went back and got another one!
Too bad I didn't get photos of the cones...
they were so good!

It has been very hot here lately.
103ยบ yesterday in Auburn!
It is not that hot up here in the mountains
under the trees but it is still very hot.

If we had stayed in the store much longer I probably
would have got another ice cream.
It has been a long time since I bought an ice cream in a sugar cone.

Here's wishing you ice cream on hot days.

Sorting Stuff

Update from my iPad: (More to come)

Here is a photo of a pie safe I found when sorting through boxes of stuff that were packed up and stored away years ago. I kept this dish and cover but managed to send most of the stuff off to Goodwill. Still lots of boxes to look through.

Not much of a post but I thought that a little bit
would be better than nothing.

The weather has moved down into the 90's
and the cooler weather will hopefully mean I will have the energy
to start taking photos and write posts.

Sunny Hot Hot Weather

Wow... I really haven't been blogging for a while!
I've been busy and didn't realize it had been such a long time.

So, I'll start up blogging again with a photo of one of my two sunflowers.
Well... part of one anyway!

I'll post some more on here tomorrow.
I need to record some of what has been happening.

I Took My iPad For A Walk

Photos taken on our overcast afternoon walk today.
It rained earlier.

My neighbor's poison oak wants to invade.
The muzzle keeps Morgan from eating stuff that makes her sick.

The path is raked now all around the property.
I still have lots more raking to do.

My poison oak patch.

This mossy wood seems safe from the wood stove.

The hens are safe and busy turning over dirt.

Morgan is checking out the seedlings.
Love the roses!

1st Small Quilt Wall

This is the small quilt wall!

The large quilt wall is up but there is no border yet.
I'll take a photo when I get some more measuring tapes
or I think up something else to use.

Here is the large quilt wall in progress.
Using duct tape to hold everything together was a good choice.
I was going to use long staples to hold the foam board on the wall
but ended up using nails.
The staples just weren't enough to hold the weight.

The large quilt wall is up but there is no border yet.
I'll take a photo when I get some more measuring tapes
or I think up something else to use.

Yay! Holly is on the way!!!

Mother's Day Vista

My choice to go here and spend some time taking photos today.

We were going to have something to eat here but decided to eat at home.

These photos are off my iPad and will enlarge.
I was trying to capture the snowy peaks far away but the snow
blended into the white haze.
The snow was pretty!

Hope all the Mom's had a lovely day!

Predator Attack

Update:
A buff brahma has shown up outside the coop.
I managed to catch her and lock her up in the coop with her sisters.
8 chickens so far.
-----

I let all the chickens out of their coop this morning.
As of this afternoon there are 3 chickens missing.
The only sign left of them is ...

The 7 chickens I could find are locked up safely in their coop.
I lured the chickens back in their coop with lots of carrot peelings.
They won't be allowed out to roam in the woods for a month or so.
The predators are feeding their Spring babies with our chickens.

On a lighter note...
Here are some views of the little green garden

that finally has some color added.
The flower bowls seem to like the Spring rain.

So do the herbs.

Morgan would rather be on a sunny porch.

May Rain

It's cold.
It's raining.

Morgan is damp and drying off after her morning walk.
The flowers and seeds are getting a good watering.
No garden photos 'till it is a bit dryer outside.
I'm staying in my pj's.

Chickens are laying this Spring.

More iPad Garden Photos

All the seeds are planted!
Some in containers... some in the gardens.
All the starter plants are planted!
And here are the photos I promised to post...

I'm publishing this from my iPad using Blogger.
Then I will open the post up on my Mac and add photo comments
and change the size of the photos.

I added a chair to the garden.
Seeds are planted in the little containers.
There are chickens out there.
The chickens would like to visit the garden.
This hen is in a hurry to join up with her sisters.
I'll post some photos of the little green garden tomorrow.
I think I will use my camera and post on my Mac.

Post From My iPad Using Blogger

Can I post an iPad photo on blogger?
Here goes...

Well, I picked out a photo from my camera roll and it is showing up at the bottom of the page... Not with the text.

I'm going to publish this and see if and where the photo shows up.

-----

Ok, I just opened up this post on my computer and everything above
the dashed lines was published on Blogger on the iPad.

I am going to have to spend some time trying to figure out
how the photo thing works, but I do like using blogger on the iPad.
My photos are on my iPad.
I think I will publish this on the computer and then open this post
up on the iPad and see if I can add some more photos.
?

Lots of work in the greenhouse and garden but no seed planting.
I keep getting sidetracked into other projects
but I do plan to do the seed planting tomorrow!

I added the next photos from my iPad using Blogger.
And now I'm adding text on the computer.
I think Blogger on the iPad works great
it's just I haven't figured out how it works yet.

The scarecrow has a new place to stand near the garden
next to the woodshed.

Pretty bowls of flowers brighten up the little green garden.

Next are two photos of the greenhouse.
With clean windows!!!
That took awhile.

Outside

Inside

There are 2 tomato plants, 1 basil and a little rose bush.
So far...
